History of The Buttocks Part 2

Now that I shared with you some history on what the buttocks of an African American woman meant back then, I would like to share with you one of the first hip hop songs that promoted the idea of an African American woman having a large behind.

Hip Hop artist Sir Mix A Lot is best known for his song " Baby Got Back" which was a number one hit that went double platinum, and won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.

This song is about Sir Mix A lot's attraction to large buttocks. In the music video you will see women constantly shaking their buttocks. This song is seen as an anthem for men who love and appreciate women with curves on their bodies, especially women with a large buttocks and women of color.

The History of The African American Woman's Buttocks

I want to share with you some information about how women of color with a large buttocks were viewed during the 1800s-1900s.

Historically, back in the 1800s, African American women with a large bottom were situated in a negative context.  An example of how they were seen in a negative context is the story of Sarah Baartman. She was a South African lady who was brought over to Europe to essentially become the object of scientific and sexual interests based on her large bottom. Her body was exhibited as a freak show attraction and she was forced to be exhibited as a freak in phony and humiliating carnival shows. When she died in 1816, scientist George Cuvier made a plaster of her body, then removed her skeleton, and after removing her brain and genitals, he pickled them and displayed them in bottles at The Musee de L’Homme ( Museum of Man Kind) in Paris. These were displayed in the museum until as late as 1985. In 2002, her remains were finally returned to South Africa where that is now her final resting place.

Now, the history of African American women with a large bottom is changing. These women are no longer being viewed as being in a freak show. That history is forgotten as young African American women engage in receiving butt implants. The Hip Hop industry engages in this discourse, promoting the modification of this type of surgery. Hip Hop artists frequently speak about a special attraction to ladies with large bottoms in their songs, and have ladies with large bottoms showing off their assets in their music videos, getting the chance to play the lead role. Hip Hop artists also brag and about purchasing a woman’s body parts in their songs; helping a woman who doesn't have a large bottom by being able to fit in and be admired. African American models, video vixens and reality shows play a role in supporting butt augmentation surgery and how their confidence has changed since they now have something larger in their rear view. It seems that having a large bottom is a part of the beauty expectations of African American women, which is making this race and generation of women more eager to receive this surgery.

Silicone Awareness in The Media

Hello everyone!

Before I go into further detail about silicone awareness, I would like to start showing you some artists who support the idea of women (African American) having a large buttocks.

My first example is hip hop artist 2 Chainz and Kanye West and their song titled 'Birthday Song'. I must admit, this song is very catchy. This song was released in August 2012. It went gold in the United States and reached the #7 spot on the US Hot Rap songs Billboard chart in 2012.

The problem I have with this song?

The message it's promoting in it's song lyrics and music video.

All throughout the video, you see (mostly African American) women flaunting their large assets. At the beginning of the music video we see women showing off their large assets by dancing and making it appear edible ( a woman laying on the table and the butt shaped cake).

At 1.40, these women are literally dry humping these men, and all you can see is their butts moving up and down.

Again at 3.44 you see 2 Chainz and Kanye West rapping while they have these women bouncing their butts up and down behind them. Those three women behind them are African American women and they fit the so called stereotype that promotes the idea of if you are an African American woman, you must have something large behind you.

At 4.00, we see another young lady walk by and the camera zooms in on her large assets.

Towards the end, we see a bunch of young women dancing outside, while the camera man zooms in on the action.

It looks like it was a great birthday party after all. I mean isn't it every guy's dream to have a ' big booty hoe' for their birthday?!

If not, it sure is for Kanye West and 2 Chainz as they chant in their chorus,

'All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho'

Some people may say this is simply entertainment. I already mentioned earlier that the song is catchy, that is undeniable but, I don't like the message they are sending to the women of color today.

To me, the song is sending a message that says " if you do not have a big booty, do not talk to me, I would not appreciate you for my birthday".

What happens to the young women who don't have these large assets behind them and want the same type of attention these young women are getting?

They are pressured to either go to the gym and work out ( doing squats) to receive that butt size that is shown throughout the video, or they take the easy way out and receive silicone injections.

This is no offense to Kanye or 2 Chainz, but I find it funny how these two men both have daughters, nieces, sisters, aunts and they still manage to promote this fantasized idea of having a large butt.

I feel like the Hip Hop community has to do better and make better, positive music for young people like myself to enjoy. Perhaps if they spoke about all they wanted was educated women that it might make a difference, or are they just following the popular trend in the Hip Hop community where people enjoy hearing this type of music.

Welcome!

Hello everyone!

Thank you for taking an interest into my blog! This blog will provide you with information about butt augmentation surgery, and how popular it has become among African American women. I want to shed light on this topic because I am a big hip hop fan, and I analyze lyrics of popular Hip Hop music and the portrayal of women in music videos daily.

I want the world to see how Hip Hop can send a positive message to the women in the industry, and how it can send a negative one. I feel that the negative messages that Hip Hop sends gets more attention, but instead of addressing it, most artists may follow and spread the same messages to receive attention and become popular.

How does all this tie to African American Women and butt augmentation surgery?

The message that these artists send in their music! The women they use to play the star role in their music videos!

ALL OF THESE WOMEN HAVE LARGE BUTTS!

These artists give attention and favoritism to these women who have these large assets behind them!tet

They also promote the stereotype that ALL AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN have large butts!

That stereotype is widely acknowledged worldwide among all ethnicities.

So what does an African American woman do when she feels that she does not fit the "expected criteria" of a Black woman, doesn't hear about her body type being spoken about in music, doesn't receive a lot  attention from males.......

SHE RESORTS TO BUTT AUGMENTATION SURGERY!

This ladies and gentleman is the problem. It is becoming very common for African American women to receive this type of surgery and flaunt their assets afterwards. Some who can't afford to go to a credible doctor are choosing to go to private doctors, where the danger in this surgery increases and women put their lives on the line.

Next post I will provide more details about where the influence comes from to receive this type of surgery. Who knows...it could possibly be your favorite artist who is supporting this type of surgery, or your favorite video vixen who received this type of surgery!
